Encouraging our students to find a sense of community, enjoyment and belonging through sport

At Perth College, we believe that participation in sport fosters a strong sense of community, enjoyment, and belonging. Keeping girls engaged in sport not only supports their academic success but also promotes their mental and emotional wellbeing.

We take a holistic approach to your daughter’s education, ensuring that she is encouraged and empowered to achieve her personal best in all areas of her development.

Interschool Sport

Senior School

As a member of the Independent Girls’ Schools Sports Association (IGSSA) WA, Perth College students have the opportunity to participate in weekly interschool sporting fixtures and compete in designated carnivals or events throughout the school year.

Our Senior School IGSSA sporting program offers a range of quality sporting opportunities for students to compete at various levels, emphasising sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. Led by our dedicated Physical Education department and supported by skilled coaches across multiple disciplines, our students are encouraged to engage fully in our IGSSA programs each term.

At Perth College, we strive to instill the values of being Capable, Courageous, and Caring in all our students, both on and off the field. Whether they are competing at a high level or simply participating for enjoyment, our students proudly represent the School with dedication and integrity.

An outline of the term-by-term IGSSA sporting framework can be found below.

Junior School

In our Junior School, the Junior Independent Girls’ Schools Sports Association (JIGSSA) competitions and programs provide students from Years 4 to 6 with the opportunity to have fun, build fundamental skills, and explore new sports in a competitive environment. Students in these year levels can try out for selected teams that represent Perth College at interschool carnivals throughout the year.

In addition to carnival events, all students from Years 3 to 6 also have the chance to participate in interschool Summer and Winter Games events with other JIGSSA schools. These sporting opportunities introduce students to a variety of sports available in Senior School, while fostering confidence and skill development from an early age.

An outline of the JIGSSA sporting framework is available below.

Perth College Rowing

At Perth College, rowing is more than just a sport; it embodies the true spirit of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. As the first school in Western Australia to establish an all-girls rowing program in 1981, we continue to be one of the top-performing schools in IGSSA competitions year after year.

From Year 8 onwards, Senior School students can join our rowing program, which operates from our specialised boatshed in Bayswater. Under the leadership of our full-time Head of Rowing, students can participate in our Learn to Row, IGSSA, and National-level programs, depending on their age, experience, and ability. These programs are delivered in a supportive team environment, enhanced by high-quality coaching and guidance.

Through rowing, Perth College students not only challenge themselves physically and mentally but also build lasting friendships and develop personal growth and resilience.

Our goal is to inspire joy in learning, every day. All our academic and co-curricular programs are created specifically for girls, in an environment that nurtures confidence and determination.
