Life as a Boarder

A Typical Day in the Boarding House

The daily schedule is thoughtfully planned to provide structure while allowing ample time for rest, relaxation, and recreation. The day starts with a healthy breakfast in the dining room, where students can choose from a variety of nutritious options. From there, students attend school and return to the boarding house in the afternoon for downtime, followed by study sessions and co-curricular activities. The evenings are reserved for communal dinners, study, and relaxation.

Weekends are filled with a variety of recreational activities, ensuring that boarders remain engaged, active, and social. Whether it’s a beach trip, movie night, or a friendly game of tennis, there’s always something exciting happening. We also encourage participation in the broader Perth community through volunteering and extracurricular programs.

Academic Excellence and Support

At Perth College, academic success is a key focus. We understand that every student learns differently, which is why our boarding program includes structured study periods, supervised by our Academic Coordinator and a team of experienced tutors. These study sessions ensure that students are on track with their assignments and receive any extra support they might need.

Boarders have access to a wealth of academic resources, including state-of-the-art learning facilities and digital tools. Year 11 and 12 students, in particular, are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, with tailored support to help them prepare for their WACE exams. Tutoring is available from Monday to Thursday, and boarders are encouraged to work together in study groups when appropriate.

Co-Curricular Activities

We believe in the importance of a balanced lifestyle, which is why our co-curricular program is so integral to the boarding experience. Boarders are encouraged to participate in sports, drama, music, and a range of other activities that complement their academic studies. Sports, in particular, play a significant role, with boarders having access to school teams as well as community sports programs.

Our transport program ensures that students involved in off-campus sports and extracurricular activities have a safe and reliable way to get to their activities. We encourage students to explore their interests and develop new skills, which helps them grow in confidence and build lasting friendships.

At Perth College, we nurture our students’ interests, strengths, and diverse educational needs through a variety of specialised award-winning programs. Explore our programs to discover how we empower our students to be remarkable.

Swim Teacher Training Course

In 2024, Perth College introduced an exciting new Swim Teacher Training Course, exclusively available to Year 11 and 12 boarders. This valuable program, saw many of our students embrace the opportunity to gain professional certification and hands-on experience.

Upon completion, these students have seamlessly transitioned into roles as paid swim instructors within our own Learn to Swim Program on campus, as well as at Chisholm College. This experience not only equips them with essential skills for the workforce but also provides them with a valuable qualification they can take back to their home communities. By participating, students develop leadership, responsibility, and a strong sense of contribution, preparing them for future careers and community involvement.

Healthy Living and Dining

At Perth College, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of our boarders. Our in-house catering team, in partnership with Chartwells, provides a nutritious and varied menu, catering to all dietary needs. Meals are served in our dining hall, where boarders can enjoy a range of hot and cold dishes, with snacks and fruit available throughout the day.

Formal dinners are held weekly, providing an opportunity for the entire boarding community to come together. These dinners foster a sense of belonging and offer a chance for reflection on the week’s activities.
