Life as a Boarder

A Typical Day in the Boarding House

The daily schedule is thoughtfully planned to provide structure while allowing ample time for rest, relaxation, and recreation. The day starts with a healthy breakfast in the dining room, where students can choose from a variety of nutritious options. From there, students attend school and return to the boarding house in the afternoon for downtime, followed by study sessions and co-curricular activities. The evenings are reserved for communal dinners, study, and relaxation.

Weekends are filled with a variety of recreational activities, ensuring that boarders remain engaged, active, and social. Whether it’s a beach trip, movie night, or a friendly game of tennis, there’s always something exciting happening. We also encourage participation in the broader Perth community through volunteering and extracurricular programs.

Academic Excellence and Support

At Perth College, academic success is a key focus for all our boarders, from Year 7 through to Year 12. We understand that every student learns differently, which is why our boarding program includes structured study periods, supervised by our Boarding Academic Coordinator and a team of experienced tutors. The Boarding Academic Coordinator plays a crucial role in coordinating tutors for prep sessions, monitoring the academic progress of all boarders, and serving as the primary liaison between parents, students, and staff to ensure that each student receives the individual support they need. This personalised approach ensures that academic needs are addressed promptly and effectively for every year group.

Boarders also have access to a wealth of academic resources, including state-of-the-art learning facilities and digital tools. Year 11 and 12 students, in particular, are encouraged to take ownership of their learning as they prepare for their WACE exams, with tailored support and guidance. Tutoring is available from Monday to Thursday for all year groups, and boarders are encouraged to collaborate in study groups where appropriate, fostering a supportive academic environment.

Supervised Compulsory Prep – Monday to Thursday
Years 7 and 86:30pm to 8:00pm
Years 9 to 126:30pm to 8:30pm

Co-Curricular Activities

We believe in the importance of a balanced lifestyle, which is why our co-curricular program is so integral to the boarding experience. Boarders are encouraged to participate in sports, drama, music, and a range of other activities that complement their academic studies. Sports, in particular, play a significant role, with boarders having access to school teams as well as community sports programs.

Our Club and Community Transport Program provides students with a safe and reliable way to travel to off-campus sports and extracurricular activities. We believe in encouraging students to pursue their passions and explore new interests, helping them to grow in confidence and build lasting friendships. To ensure their safety and comfort, we use trusted Perth College-employed drivers who are familiar with our students, offering dependable transport to and from their commitments.

At Perth College, we nurture our students’ interests, strengths, and diverse educational needs through a variety of specialised award-winning programs. Explore our programs to discover how we empower our students to be remarkable.

Swim Teacher Training Course

In 2024, Perth College introduced an exciting new Swim Teacher Training CourseThis valuable program, saw many of our Boarders embrace the opportunity to gain professional certification and hands-on experience.

Upon completion, these students have seamlessly transitioned into roles as paid swim instructors within our own Learn to Swim Program on campus, as well as at Chisholm College. This experience not only equips them with essential skills for the workforce but also provides them with a valuable qualification they can take back to their home communities. By participating, students develop leadership, responsibility, and a strong sense of contribution, preparing them for future careers and community involvement.

Healthy Living and Dining

At Perth College, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of our boarders. Our in-house catering team, in partnership with Chartwells, offers a nutritious and varied menu that caters to all dietary needs. Meals are served in our dining hall, where boarders can enjoy a wide selection of hot and cold dishes, with snacks and fruit available throughout the day.

We understand the importance of flexibility in our students’ schedules, which is why dinner is served between 5:15 pm and 7:00 pm, allowing boarders to dine at a time that suits their personal routines.

Once a week, we hold a formal dinner, bringing the entire boarding community together. These occasions foster a sense of belonging and offer an opportunity to reflect on the week’s activities while strengthening connections across the boarding house
