Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Transition Week

Last week the Junior School welcomed Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students to Perth College for their Transition Week. Our Early Years program uses this week to gently settle students into their new classes and become familiar with their teachers, classmates, and learning environments.

Students are given time to explore the different areas within the classroom and outdoor spaces in the School at their own pace, and teachers talk to them about what they need to do in the classroom.

Pre-Kindergarten teacher, Miss Sophie said, “Pre-Kindergarten students have had a wonderful transition into their Perth College experience. They have got to know their new teachers, new environment, and made new friends. We look forward to the beautiful journey ahead.”

As we near the end of the second week it was another exciting one as our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students began their specialist classes. There has been lots of time to begin building relationships with our Music, Physical Theatre, and Cultural Immersion teachers.

When asked, Pre-Kindergarten student, Dusty said, “Play-dough and singing on the mat” have been her favourite activities this week.

Our teachers focus on “being, belonging, becoming1”, in our philosophy and encourage children to feel comfortable being in their environments, find belonging within their class, and build the foundation to become confident once they enter the upper years of Junior School.

We have loved seeing them grow over the last two weeks as they settle into Perth College.
