Perth College Welcomes New Principal, Ms Sarah McGarry

The Perth College community gathered on February 5 for a special Commissioning Service to formally welcome and celebrate the appointment of Ms Sarah McGarry as the sixth Principal of Perth College. This significant event was attended by representatives of the Episcopal Team of the Anglican Church, Diocese of Perth, including the Archdeacon of Perth, The Venerable Angela Webb, and Right Reverend Kate Wilmot. Reverend Canon Tim Spencer, the Perth College School Chaplain, also took part in the proceedings.

Ms McGarry commenced her role in September following an extensive national search conducted by the Perth College School Council. With a deep sense of purpose and dedication, she has embraced the leadership position, acknowledging the privilege and responsibility that comes with guiding the school’s future.

“It is with humility and gratitude that I have accepted the honour of being the Principal of Perth College,” Ms McGarry said. “From the moment I arrived, I have been welcomed with open arms and warmth from the school community.”

As a leader who values both tradition and innovation, Ms McGarry is committed to ensuring that Perth College continues to empower students through a supportive and forward-thinking environment. She expressed her vision for the school, stating, “The history and traditions of Perth College will always be honoured; we will also be bold in our vision for the future. The young women who walk our halls today will shape the world tomorrow.”

Highlighting her dedication to student growth and leadership, Ms McGarry reaffirmed the school’s mission to inspire confidence and compassion in every student. “Perth College will remain a place where every girl feels seen, valued, and empowered to pursue her passions. The future belongs to those who embrace change, see opportunities where others see obstacles, and lead with integrity and vision.”

Jon Burgess, Chair of the School Council, shared his enthusiasm for Ms McGarry’s leadership. “The role of a Principal is both profound and challenging. It requires vision, dedication, and a deep understanding of the needs of our students, staff, and broader community. We look forward to working alongside Ms McGarry to ensure Perth College continues to be a place where our students, staff, and community flourish.”

Echoing this sentiment, 2025 School Captain Lauren Rasheed expressed the student body’s excitement, stating, “Ms McGarry’s vision for Perth College has already ignited a sense of excitement, and we can see her commitment to making our school an even better place for every student.” The Principal Commissioning Service is a cherished tradition at Perth College, marking an important milestone in the school’s 123-year history. As Ms McGarry embarks on her leadership journey, the Perth College community looks forward to a future filled with inspiration, opportunity, and continued excellence.
