Perth College Triumphs at 2024 IGSSA Interschool Athletics
The Perth College athletics team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2024 IGSSA Interschool Athletics, held on Tuesday 10 September. With each team member contributing their best efforts, the day was filled with personal bests and exceptional results, leading to a historic win across multiple categories.
Special recognition goes to Lydia Padgett, whose tireless work ensured the team was ready to compete, alongside senior staff Renae Campbell and Kim Anile and the entire PE department for their unwavering support throughout the event.
Trophy Haul for PC
Perth College took home six trophies, cementing their dominance at the event:
- 3 Year Group Trophies: Years 7, 10, and 11/12
- Laurie Packham Trophy: Champion Track School
- Elizabeth Davenport Trophy: Champion Field School
- Dunklings Trophy: Overall Champion School (PC’s 3rd win after 2011 and 2023)
In addition, Year 8 narrowly missed out on a trophy, finishing 2nd by just one point, while Year 9 secured 5th place overall.
Record-Breaking Performances
The day kicked off with a thrilling start as Jonni (Year 7) shattered a 14-year-old record in the high jump, clearing an impressive 1.61m. Her peers, competitors, and spectators alike cheered her on as the bar went higher, creating an electric atmosphere in the stands.
Later in the day, the Year 11/12 4x100m relay team (Ella, Jessica, Rosie, and Leah) made headlines with a new record time of 48.98. Both Leah and Jess went on to dominate their events, securing first place in Divisions 1 and 2 of the 100m (12.40 and 12.48) and 200m (25.38 and 25.16). The team further swept Divisions 3-6 of the 100m and took 2nd place in Division 2 of the relay.
Standout Achievements
Year 11/12 students achieved significant individual wins:
- Eze: Div 1 Shot Put (11.66m)
- Zoe: Div 2 Javelin (30.80m)
- Rosie: Multiple top finishes, including 1st in Div 3 100m (13.33), and 2nd place in Div 1 100m hurdles and high jump.
Year 10 saw remarkable results as well:
- Ibe: 1st place in three Division 1 events – 100m, 90m hurdles, and long jump – and 2nd in the 200m.
- Elidh: Won Div 1 800m (2:17.67) and 1500m (4:41.53), took 2nd in the 400m, and contributed to the Div 2 relay.
- Georgia: A strong 2nd in Div 2 100m and 200m, 1st in Div 2 800m (2:24.54), and a key relay team member.
Baia (Year 9) excelled across several events, while Kevi (Year 9) won the Div 1 Shot Put (11.73m).
The Year 8 4x100m relay team (Li, Isabella, Lily and Amelie) claimed victory with a time of 53.70, despite a tough day for Li, who showed resilience after a fall in the Div 1 200m. Isabella contributed further wins in high jump and long jump.
Year 7 showcased many rising stars, including Jonni who added a Div 1 long jump win to her record-breaking day. Other notable performances included Kalani, Caitlin, and Eva, among many others.
A Day to Remember
The 2024 IGSSA Interschool Athletics will be remembered as a day of tremendous achievement for Perth College, as the students, staff, and coaches came together to deliver a performance that will go down in history.
