Perth College has achieved a remarkable milestone, claiming our third consecutive IGSSA Athletics championship and establishing ourselves as a dominant force in interschool athletics competition.

Following our historic victories in 2023 and 2024, this latest triumph represents an unprecedented three-peat that showcases the sustained excellence of Perth College’s athletics program across all year groups. The 2025 championship continues our remarkable journey that began with our 2023 victory – our first championship win since 2011 – followed by our comprehensive 2024 performance where we claimed six trophies including the coveted Dunklings Trophy for Overall Champion School.

A Team Effort

“This is a remarkable outcome for a team that has trained so consistently and with so much enthusiasm across the 2025 Athletics season,” said Ms McGarry, Principal of Perth College. “Our gratitude to the coaches, mentors and staff so integral to our program for their leadership.”

Ms McGarry emphasised the collective nature of the victory: “We are so proud of the PC spirit, resilience and commitment shown by our athletes. The collective result arose from the efforts of every individual – both staff and students – working together to create a strong and flourishing community that performed admirably as a team today.”

Special recognition goes to our Health and Physical Education Team, whose expertise and dedication provide the foundation for our championship success. Their commitment to developing both individual athletes and team culture has been instrumental in creating this sustained period of excellence.

Building Championships

The championship reflects Perth College’s commitment to comprehensive sporting opportunities through our nationally recognised Sports Development and Performance Program. This program offers two distinct pathways designed to meet students at every level of their athletic journey.

“The depth and breadth of the Sports program at PC provides a wonderful opportunity for students to pursue their passions and we celebrate their effort and achievement most heartily,” Ms McGarry added.

Our Community Sport pathway encourages year-round participation and personal growth, while our Athlete Development pathway supports students with elite sporting aspirations through specialised training and academic flexibility.

Student Leadership

The championship success was particularly meaningful for the team’s student leaders. “It’s been such a huge day and I’m so proud of the team,” said Jessica Hanney, Year 12 Athletics Captain. “The lead-up took a lot of hard work and commitment from everyone, and it was really special to see all of that come together today.”

Jessica highlighted the dedication required: “Early morning trainings, afternoons, weekends and some questionable weather has all really paid off. The athletes gave it everything, and the way they supported each other throughout the day was amazing.”

She also acknowledged the broader team effort: “Even those there supporting as reserves or in between events made the atmosphere and environment so amazing. The teachers and coaches were also incredible, their encouragement and effort behind the scenes made such a difference we couldn’t have done it without them. I’m just so grateful I got to be a part of this amazing team.”

A Victory Built on Every Point

Perth College’s 2025 championship victory was secured by the narrowest of margins – just 27 points separating them from Methodist Ladies College (1185 vs 1158 points). This thrilling finish made every individual performance crucial and demonstrated how the collective effort Ms McGarry and Jessica spoke of truly determined the outcome.

Adding to the celebration, Perth College claimed both the Year 7 and Year 8 championships, showcasing exceptional talent in the junior ranks and promising continued success for years to come. Congratulations to our record breakers:

Three Years of Excellence

The three consecutive championships represent more than athletic achievement – they showcase a culture where individual effort is valued, team success is celebrated, and every student is encouraged to pursue their personal best. This culture of excellence and inclusion extends throughout all aspects of school life at Perth College.

From record-breaking individual performances to team victories built on collective effort, our students continue to demonstrate the PC spirit that makes our school community so special. The sustained success across multiple year groups reflects the depth of talent and commitment throughout our athletics program.

As we celebrate this historic achievement, we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence both on the track and in the classroom, where our students learn that success comes from dedication, teamwork, and the courage to strive for their personal best.

Congratulations to our entire athletics team, coaches, and support staff on this outstanding achievement!
