International Women’s Day – A message from Interim Principal Clare Johansen
On International Women’s Day, we honour and celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of women worldwide.
At Perth College, we are fortunate to have many remarkable women in our own history, starting with our founding Sisters Vera, Rosalie and Susannah, who forged a strong pathway for us to follow. Their vision to develop women’s freedom through ‘higher education’ continues to echo true across our society today.
This year’s theme, Inspire Inclusion, recognises that when women are empowered to have an equal voice, self-agency and can participate at all levels – we build a more inclusive society. This is reflected in our School community, where we encourage our students to embrace diversity and recognise the inherent value of every individual; where we listen and respect different perspectives to create a sense of belonging.
We pride ourselves on providing our girls the opportunities to lead, learn, and grow, where they can build the confidence, skills, and knowledge to make a difference. Our Service Learning provides students with an awareness of local and global issues; they are able to participate in projects that foster inclusion and engagement.
This year, a group of our senior school students are Anglicare Ambassadors, and they will be fundraising and advocating for the homeless as part of the School Sleep Out. Our Junior School students are connecting with community groups such as the Inglewood Triangle Volunteers to grow their awareness of the environment at a local and global level. These opportunities provide our girls with a well-rounded education that gives them the ‘freedom’ to have a voice and to become courageous in their words and actions.
Thank you to our parents and staff, for your ongoing commitment to fostering our culture of inclusion that is grounded in our long history of empowering young women. Together, we are investing in our girls who will be capable of shaping a more inclusive and equitable world.
